Have you heard about the latest petrol price update for next 15 days?

Petrol prices:

They’re staying at Rs 252.10 per liter. No change here, so at least not going up.

High-speed diesel:

The price has dropped by Rs 3.05, now set at Rs 255.38 per liter. Not a huge drop, but it’s something!

Kerosene oil:

It’s cheaper now, with a decrease of Rs 3.32. The new price is Rs 161.66 per liter.

Light diesel oil:

It’s also gone down by Rs 2.78, now priced at Rs 148.95 per liter.

But here’s where it gets a little tricky:

The petroleum levy:

The government is still charging a hefty Rs. 60 per liter on both petrol and diesel. This levy is making it harder for prices to drop even more.

IMF program:

The government couldn’t reduce this levy because of restrictions from Pakistan’s deal with the IMF. This means prices couldn’t come down as much as we hoped.

Petroleum levy collection:

Between July and September, the government raked in Rs. 261.69 billion from petroleum levies. And their target for this fiscal year? A whopping Rs. 1,281 billion.

In a nutshell:

Petrol prices remain the same, while diesel and kerosene prices see a slight dip.
But the Rs. 60 levy is still hitting hard, with the IMF restrictions holding things back.
The government is collecting billions from us through this levy, and they’ve set a big target for the year.
It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, right? While some prices have dropped, the big problem—those levies—still seems to be here for the long haul. Let’s just hope the next update brings some real relief!
